Hello, everyone, and Happy New Year!
(We had a slight technical difficulty with our Newsletter, causing it to be delayed, and hope that this gets sent out in a timely manner).
We hope that you all had a fun and festive holiday season with friends and family and hopefully a good book or two, and wish that this year is filled with much laughter and plenty of adventures.
We had a successful month of December here at the bookstore. We decided to stay open from Black Friday until December 23 to help customers fulfill all their bookish gift needs. That’s a lot of time spent here, but we enjoyed every second of it. When we are not selling books, we are reading books, and that’s just fine with us.
This first month of the year is our Short Story Contest voting period. We currently have six participants, all of whom should be praised for their courage to write a story for others to read. From now until January 31, their stories will be posted on our website (onceuponatome.com/short-story-contest). If you have the time, please read and vote for your favorite story (and maybe provide a sentence or two why you picked that story) and email us at [email protected] or, through our website’s Contact Us page (onceuponatome.com/contact-us).
The author with the most votes at the end of the month will have ten paperback copies of their story printed by us and sold in the bookstore, and the profits from sales of their story will go to them.
One of our main goals when creating the bookstore was to provide a community hub for the people of Sandy to gather in. We hope that this Short Story Contest engages the community as we begin this new year.
If you live in the Sandy area, and have a book club, game club, or some other group that gathers periodically, our lounge/reading room is open to host you during business hours. Email us or come by the store if you are interested! We have seating for seven and room for more (if you bring extra chairs).
